A flexible approach to working together: whether you want to collaborate closely on the design and facilitation, or, largely hand it over so you can fully settle in as a participant yourself

Agreed moments to pause, check that what we are doing still makes sense and, if necessary, respond and adapt to the emerging needs and priorities of the group in the context of the wider purpose of gathering

Creative methodologies to build trust and strengthen relational intelligence, and thus increase the likelihood of accelerating sustainable collective action

Whether it’s a strategy, roadmap, or project proposal, I’ll create high quality documentation. I work with a network of skilled and creative collaborators, who can help create multi-media, multi-lingual and interactive products.

I work with non-profits, peacebuilders, human rights defenders, campaigners and activists to advance more just, equitable and sustainable societies and futures.

Through participatory online and face-to-face workshops and events, I support teams and groups to come together for dialogue, reflection, and strategising, deepening their capacity to collaborate, build trust, catalyse collective intelligence, and develop their shared resilience in the face of complex global challenges. The process balances structure with openness, allowing space for emerging priorities and external shifts, whilst moving towards your ultimate goals.

My approach is grounded in care, relational awareness, and awareness of power dynamics – supporting groups to move forward with integrity.

My experience:

I’ve designed and facilitated countless programme and project design processes, supporting international non-profits and their consortia to successfully secure funding.

I’ve run highly participatory workshops to support organisations and coalitions to create advocacy strategies engaging governments, donors and multilateral institutions including the Africa Union, European Union, and UN bodies, to advance women’s and human rights globally and in contexts of conflict and restricted civic space.

On behalf of Oxfam, I’ve coordinated with the African Union to host a multi-day, multi-country learning event, bringing together peacebuilders and human rights defenders to exchange and document strategy and best practice to advance their goals.

I’ve also co-designed and co-facilitated a multi-day event for the Microsolidarity Network, bringing together over 70 community-builders for exchange and cross-pollination.

Drawing on Microsolidarity and Art of Hosting principles and practices, let’s create a participatory space for conversation, connection and action.

You know what your collective values are, but want to pause and check: ‘Are our approaches and practices embodying what we stand for?’ ‘How do we practice power-with with our team or organisation and with our stakeholders?’ Through individual and group exercises, we’ll collectively consider how to strengthen these connections, so crucial to integrity and credibility.

You want to build trust and your relational capacities

As movement‑building facilitator adrienne maree brown says, ‘Move at the speed of trust.’ Yet in our urgency to bring about change or meeting funding deadlines, trustbuilding within and between groups and coalition can be overlooked. Doing so risks tensions creating rupture, or the recreation of the polarisation our movements seek to overcome. We’ll look at how these dynamics play out, and integrate practices to strengthen group and partnership bonds and collective well-being, so that when differences or tensions arise, the group is better resourced to metabolise them.

It’s time to take stock, adapt and innovate

You may have reached a milestone. Or just sense that it’s time to pause and reflect. Your efforts interact with complex and rapidly changing systems and socio-political contexts: blindspots develop if we keep carrying on regardless. Taking time to consciously slow down, exchange learnings and best practices, adapt and innovate supports you to mitigate challenges, make the most of opportunities and remain impactful.

You need to assess what’s not working

Your work has stalled, maybe due to external factors or something within your group, or a combination of both. Can your efforts be kick-started, and if so how, or, do you need to embrace an inevitable ending? Together, we can answer this question, identifying what’s needed and the practical steps needed to overcome the block: or, plan how to conclude your efforts well.

It’s time for a retrospective

You’re coming to the end of a project and it’s time to harvest learning. What has worked well? What has been challenging? What would you do differently next time? How did you work together? Take time to slow down, celebrate, grieve, if necessary, and strengthen future efforts.
